Online Lecture Presented by Yan Xu, Associate Professor of Nanyang Technological University

On the morning of June 5th, 2021, Dr Yan Xu, Associate Professor of Nanyang Technological University, was invited to deliver a speech at the“Online Lecture Hall”on the topic of“Advanced data-analytics for smart grid applications”. The series of online academic lectures were jointly organized by the School of Electrical Engineering of Chongqing University, the State Key Laboratory of Power Transmission Equipment and System Security, and were hosted by Professor Ren Zhouyang, Dean Assistant of the School.

Before the lecture officially started, Professor Ren extended a warm welcome to Professor Xu's participation in the“Online Lecture Hall”and provided a brief introduction of Professor Xu's research interests to the audience.

During the lecture, Prof. Xu first introduced the motivation and the urgent need of data-analytics for smart grid.

Then he presented recent research works on utilizing data for smart grid applications at three levels: grid level, customer level, and asset level. He introduced a series of methods for data-driven stability analysis, data-driven power system operation and control, smart meter data-analytics and home energy management, power asset fault diagnosis and health monitoring. Deep learning, reinforcement learning, and transfer learning, as well as advanced artificial intelligence techniques were included in this section.

After the lecture, Professor Xu patiently answered the students' questions about the methods used by his group to resolve the problems of fitting reliability of ELM regression data and estimation of capacity remaining in batteries in the final discussion, which expanded new ideas for the students' research.
